about.
Nicola is an interdisciplinary hybrid artist, living in a small coastal bay village, situated just outside the beautiful historic City of Canterbury. Home and surrounding environments are where the merging of sea and countryside, living amongst marine and wildlife where the natural world has provided a rich source of inspiration, with nature being a residing theme underpinning Nicola's work.
Art is the creative practice, the mechanism in which Nicola explores themes of breaking boundaries with interconnectedness. With a current fraying, fragility between nature and its multispecies, she endeavours to highlight the benefits of becoming present in and with nature and its unpredictable beauty. Adopting a playful approach, her work spins its creative axis using her fascination art, science and philosophy; weaving materials with a contextually considered approach in hinged idiosyncratic connections, exploring metaphysical dilemmas as a conscious species we face.
In her most current project, Nicola has strived to work with sustainability in mind, using and fusing, recycled already sourced materials. Applying these to her sculptural pupae caged forms encapsulating seeds of life and 'Raph,' a biophilic hybrid. She has drawn on mythological, surrealist elements, to highlight current loss of biodiversity and its threats of extinction to species, together with the bleaching of coral cities in our oceans; the transformation and adaptation to re-wild and re-world. Nicola's artwork captures the finer details in the beauty of nature, using wildife and botanical elements, alongside the intertwining of cultural reference.
Endeavouring to keep a conversation alive and moving forward with positive action; seeking a moral compass, self-informing; creating an emotional awareness with nature, building interconnected relationships, to experience mindfulness with ecological health to all species, multispecies.
